Chicago based international non-profit, MedGlobal, is sending local doctors and nurses on a medical mission to Lebanon to save lives of adult and chidren refugees from Syria.

The mission leaves on Thursday, September 27 with the goal of providing Cardiac and Pediatric healthcare to Syrians who fled their country and ended up in refugee camps in Lebanon.

The doctors going on the trip include several leading Cardiologists from Advocate Christ Medical Center and Lutheran General Hospital.

The mission will last one week during which the doctors and nurses will perform complicated Cardiac procedures and other life-saving operations. They will also survey Syrian children for congenital defects in one of the largest camps in Lebanon.

Volunteers will be traveling to the region with $200,000 worth of donated stents. Most of the manpower and equipment has been donated by local and national businesses.


There are at least 10,000 Syrians in the Chicago area and 200,000 in the United States. 1,000 Syrian refugees have settled in Chicago over the past three years and close to 18,000 in the overall U.S.
